Hey there!

I'm Nidia Béjar

I’m an Industrial Designer based in Delft, Netherlands. I’m originally from Madrid, Spain and will forever talk about the superiority of Spanish food.

I like to build designs that help people have a better day-to-day life.

This is me

My Career so far

First-year engineering master student, future creator and designer. My passion for creating brought me to the Netherlands, where I have received my undergrad, and I am currently getting my masters in Integrated Product Design at TU Delft.

The most valuable lesson I have learned from my program has been the importance of how to fully develop a good design and its implementation.  I have mastered Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and Python. I continue to build skills in UX and UI. Furthermore, I have done multiple studio internships that have provided real-life experience and important technological skills.

Professional Identity

I have always been someone who deeply cares about those who love me, especially my family. Now that my grandparents are getting old and sadly my parents will follow, I started to see many challenges they encounter in their daily lives. I started to see many improvements that can be added to the elderly's lives, which encompasses both psychological and physical. Consequently, this has created my professional identity, I am a designer who cares about creating a positive impact on the user’s way of life by focusing on the UX between the user and the product.

I am a wonderful listener which allows me to become a good leader by knowing my teams' skills as well as strengths and dividing tasks accordingly. I also motivate my team when there is little drive. One of my drawbacks is that I tend to be a perfectionist, which leads me to invest a lot of time in a task as well as try to push that level of quality to my teammates. But, even though it is a weakness, it can positively affect the quality of my work. I am passionate about all tasks I take upon me as I know the rest of my teammates depend on me as well as I depend on them. I am a hard worker, I am able to work in a fast-paced environment as I am highly motivated, organized, and deadline driven. Lastly, I am really creative, which helps me come up with unexpected solutions and I always take a flexible approach when challenges are presented.

I am a designer who cares about creating a positive impact on the user’s way of life by focusing on the UX between the user and the product.

Vision

Accordingly, my vision follows. I realized that society is an area amazing to work on, humans are exceptional, and, if steered in the right direction, many changes can be seen. We have to better ourselves before we better others. This way, I want to focus on the elderly for my vision. I want to be a designer that creates solutions in the healthcare sector, improving the user's mental and physical health. I want to be a designer that focuses on healthcare. I believe that it is a primary aspect of human life, and designing for it brings me great satisfaction.

A product that has helped my vision is the Philips GoSafe (image to the right), this product is a medical alarm system. This product consists of a necklace with a button that's connected to emergency services. When the elder is in danger, they press the button to receive help. Another feature that I love about this design is that seniors are also able to contact the services whenever they feel like it. This is especially helpful as most seniors usually live alone and being able to talk to others it can positively affect their mental health. I would love to design products like this because it gives a sense of safety to the user but also those around them. Even though there is not an immediate need for a product like this, by creating it, it has a great impact on the quality of life.

I want to be a designer that creates solutions in the healthcare sector, improving the user's mental and physical health.

I want to be a designer who is very aware of societal and global issues and to solve them by proposing sustainable designs and inducing sustainable choices/conduct.

Progress

Throughout my studies I have selected courses that have helped me become an all-around designer.

My progress throughout all the years of my study have shown great results, with me becoming more confident in my skills.

Future Plans

I wish to expand my studies in the area of healthcare and interaction. For this, I am doing masters at TU Delft in the Integrated Product Design program. In addition, TU Delft offers a designing for healthcare track, which I am part of.

For future companies, I am specially interested in those who make an impact in the world, such as Philips and Medtronic. My goal is to end up working in one of them, where I can travel the world to solve problems and create a better society.

I am excited to what the future brings.
